Teaching Moments – Positive Self -Talk

By John Bishop Everyone has an inner voice and hears positive or negative self-talk. Your self-talk might remind you to watch out for cars when crossing the street, or it might remind you to be careful when doing something new. Or your inner voice could be saying that you are a winner and that you will have a good day. There is one important thing to remember about your inner voice: You control the on/off switch. Nobody else can control it. Now here is where it gets interesting. If you are at the controls of your self-talk, will you let in positive thoughts or negative thoughts? Has your inner voice ever said to you: I cant do that, or Ill never be able to get good at? These are negative messages your inner voice is giving you. Since you are in control of your self-talk, why not create positive messages? Positive self-talk is an important key to your success. Replace the negative messages with I will learn to and I can do this. Or, Im getting better and better at this. Remember, everyone talks to themselves. You can let in either negative or positive self-talk. Choose positive self-talk for a more successful life. You are a winner! Tell yourself that every day with your positive inner voice messages. Suggestions for implementation: 1. Count the number of positive and negative self-talk messages you give yourself for the next two days. Is your self-talk more positive or negative? 2. Determine if there is a recurring theme in your messages. What lessons can you learn from this exercise? Questions for discussion: 1. Do you know someone who is always beating themselves up? 2. What inner voice messages do you think successful people use? 3. How do you think they deal with negative inner voice messages? Please visit www.TeachingMoments.com for more life skills ideas. Hints and Requirements to Make The Optimum Compost

By James Ellison Compost is the center of gardening. In order to have anything grow properly you need to feed the soil not the plant. Most of the food that a plant takes in is from the roots. The leaves take in food but not on the scale that the roots do. By placing a layer of compost on the ground each year either on the lawn or in the garden you have provided the nutrients that mother nature had intended to have done. Following are hints to make that compost better and the requirements needed to decompose that pile of material to become compost. Hints to help your compost pile Begin with compost bins 3 to 4 feet across. This size is perfect as it permits for rapid internal heating of the compost pile, which forces the decomposing process. Smaller bins will be hard to heat and can’t keep processing temperatures through normal winters. Bigger bins may limit air filtration into the pile, retarding decomposition. Put some nitrogen into the leaves as you place them in the pile. Add one to two cups of organic lawn fertilizer, minus weed killers, for every four bushels of leaves. Or you can add one part leaves to two parts fresh grass clippings or related green garden remains. Wet the leaves as they are piled since moisture is a must for decomposition, and rain won’t soak through a leaf pile quickly. Be aware, shredded leaves may be over packed in the compost pile, restricting oxygen required for decomposition. Don’t turn over compost piles in the fall. This practice lets the heat escape, which is needed to keep the process through the winter. Compost piles should be turned in spring to accelerate the process. There are only four compost requirements 1. Exposing to air A loose-fitting, well-mixed heap of compost will reach high internal temperatures, which is necessary for killing weed seeds and other unwanted pathogens. To be on the risk-free side, don’t decompose diseased tomato plants or similar plant material. The absence of oxygen will produce a disgusting smelling compost pile as well as reduce the process. This can be averted by turning the pile once in a while. 2. Wetness If the pile is dry, a few moments with the garden hose to moisten it is all that is required. Do not overwater as a waterlogged pile will not decompose the right way and there will be undesirable odors. 3. Particle size In the subject of composting, smaller is best when it comes to what is put into the pile. Branches and large pieces retard the process and takes much longer to become compost. By utilizing a chopper or shredder, you will finish with smaller pieces. Or you can try a hand pruner, cutting large stems and stalks into smaller pieces to reduce particle size. 4. Plant food Because microbes, which help the decomposition of organic matter, utilize nitrogen for their metabolism, additional nitrogen should be used. Grass clippings are high in nitrogen and will assist in composting if correctly mixed with other materials. Don’t use clippings where herbicides have been applied lately. Kitchen waste, like meat products, cooking oils or fat and bones, should not be used as they appeal to rodents and other creatures. In addition, don’t put pet or human waste in the compost pile. If you follow directions, you can make compost from fall leaves that is ready to use by following late spring. If you only tossed them into a pile, it will take two or three years to decompose. But Mother Nature will make certain the leaves turn into compost sooner or later. Jim’s articles are from extensive research on each of his topics. LG Prada – Beauty Personified

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Adam_Jaylin]Adam Jaylin This fashion phone by LG has touch-sensitive buttons actually appear on the LCD screen and change according to the current menu function. Down below the huge screen are just two real buttons for send and return. This unique handset is one of its kind, and is undoubtedly the most stylish phone released yet! The touchscreen (TFT, 262,000 colours, 240 x 400 pixels, 3 inches) in the LG Prada is super cool and very effective. It is accompanied by a stylus and the users are expected to use their fingers instead. The only disadvantage is that you might find it a little hard to accustom yourself to its working but once that happens, it becomes a pleasure to use this touchscreen. With something as good looking, it is easier to forget and neglect its technical specifications and features. In this case, however, the manufacturers have paid equal attention to both the aspects. The plethora of features incorporated in the LG Prada include a 2 megapixel camera with flash, e-mail support, FM radio, music player, microSD memory card, EDGE data transfer and Bluetooth & USB connectivity. The shiny casing in the exterior easily gets draped in your fingerprints hence, LG has provided a branded LCD cleaner with this handset. An exclusive leather case also accompanies the LG Prada, but it is advisable to keep it at a distance. Are You Truly Marriage Material

By Priya Shah Is marriage becoming an outdated concept in a world of Hollywood-style divorces and disposable spouses? With celebrities filing for divorce almost every other day, and the awful stats on marriage and divorce, it’s a wonder that people bother getting hitched in the first place. But, I think the real reason divorce is hitting an all time high, and belief in marriage as an institution is waning, is that the new generation (and young women, in particular) have far more choices open to them today, than their parents ever had. And by choices I mean the ability, means, and legal sanction to: – Leave an abusive relationship. Whereas most women of our parent’s generation would have chosen to stay in an abusive relationship (and still do), young women today have much greater support from parents, society and the law, and when faced with that choice, they are more likely to opt out, and with good reason). – Pursue happiness aggressively. Whether that means choosing to leave an unfulfilling relationship because of irreconcilable differences, growing apart or career choices, young people have greater legal and societal support to end a marriage than their parents did. While the aim of being in a happy, fulfilling relationship is worth pursuing, it takes a lot of work and sacrifice, not to mention loyalty and commitment, to make a go of it. Young people today seem far less committed to their relationships, and less tolerant of differences. After all, why bother, when it’s so easy to end something that isn’t working and start over with someone new? What they don’t realise, however, is that the issues that plagued them in their old relationships are likely to follow them into the new relationship as well. For women, in particular, the pressure to settle down and have kids makes many of them rush into marriage without assessing the suitability of the person they’ve chosen as a life partner. The question, then, is not whether marriage is an outdated institution, but whether you and your partner are marriage-material. Do you both have what it takes to make a good marriage? Are you truly ready for marriage and all it entails? Here are some things you need to do if you’re in a relationship or planning to take the plunge. Get Rid Of Your Illusions Like a thirsty man running towards a mirage in a desert, the false belief that marriage is going to make you happy is the cause of many a divorce. If you’re miserable when single, you’ll be miserable when married. That’s a fact. As long as you keep believing that you need another person to “complete” you, you’ll be chasing a mirage of happiness, and end up disappointed every time. Our limiting beliefs about marriage are what prevent many couples from staying in what would otherwise be happy, fulfilling relationships. Getting rid of your illusions about marriage and the opposite sex will eliminate one of the biggest obstacles to having a successful marriage. Know What You Want Before you decide to settle down with one person, it’s smart to date until you have the maturity and clarity to know your own needs, and know what you expect from yourself and your partner. Dating allows you to learn more about the opposite sex, teaches you what sort of people to avoid, and helps you understand how to deal with the inevitable problems that crop up. Don’t Rush Things Instead of giving in to the heady emotion that accompanies “falling in love” and rushing into a commitment you might regret, take the time to get to know each other for at least a couple of years (anything before that is a risk) before deciding whether you want to spend your lives together. Ending a relationship can be painful, but it’s much less painful than a divorce, especially when there are kids involved. Live In The Moment Instead of keeping one eye on the goal (marriage) and pressuring your partner into a commitment, learn to live in the moment, appreciate your partner for who they are, and enjoy your time together. Take every relationship as a learning experience, because that’s exactly what it is. Educate Yourself Learn what it takes, and doesn’t take, to build a great relationship. Is the opposite sex a mystery to you? There are plenty of books and courses that will help you learn more about them. I recommend some of the best ones on my sites below. Get Your Act Together If you are unable to take responsibility for your emotions, have codependent tendencies, or addictions (that can be lethal to a relationship), approach a counsellor and learn healthy ways to communicate with your partner, manage anger, deal with disappointment, stress and sexual needs. These skills will stand you in good stead when your marriage hits the inevitable bumps along the way. Deserve What You Want In an earlier article titled “How to Attract The Mate Of Your Dreams” [http://www.soulkadee.com/2006/05/08/how-to-attract-the-mate-of-your-dreams/], I wrote that the best way to attract a great partner is to become one yourself. You’ll find a number of good books that teach you how to become a great partner here… http://www.healthy-relationships.net/become-a-great-partner.htm Practice Unconditional Love The popular notion of love is that it’s a feeling, an emotion. But is that really true? While being in love does generate powerful feelings and emotions, those are actually the symptoms or effect of love. In a spiritual sense, love is a way of life, a way of being. We do not fall in love or feel love. We practice love. Love is about doing, not feeling. Practice unconditional love towards yourself and others. Learn to treat people with the love and respect they deserve. Act from your higher self at all times and you’ll be rewarded with a lifetime of love and happiness. 20 Ways to Slash This Winter’s Murderous Utility Bills

By Nick Howes 1. Close doors and close heat registers in little-used rooms. 2. Set the daytime thermostat lower than usual. Each degree reduced saves 2%-3% on heating costs. 3. Lower the thermostat at night and use an electric blanket. 4. During the day, open drapes and shades on the sunny side of the house to let in the heat of the sun. Close them at night to slow heat loss. 5. Water heater tips: Wrap an insulation blanket around older water heaters to conserve the heat. Periodically, drain your water heater to extend its life and improve its efficiency. 6. Use a water-saving showerhead and sink aerators to reduce hot water usage. 7. Reduce the temperature on the water heater. You can see 7%-10% savings in related costs. Use the “normal” or 120 degree setting, unless your dishwasher requires higher. 8. Wrap insulation around the pipe leading out of your water heater to the wall or the first five feet of pipe, whichever is appropriate. 9. Clean or replace furnace filters monthly. 10. Warm air rises and it’s wasted near the ceiling. A ceiling fan with reversed blades forces it down and circulates it. 11. Use storm windows which can reduce heat loss by 25%-50%, storm doors, and inexpensive caulking to prevent heat leakage. Caulking with silicone content is best; one tube is enough to properly seal one window. 12. In your home, heating systems dry the air and dry air is more easily chilled. Use a dehumidifier. If you have radiator heat, you can put a pan of water on the radiator or you can place a pan of water on the stove. 13. When not in use, turn off all appliances, lights, electronics, etc. 14. Clean vent spaces with vaccuum cleaner or broom and make certain they are clear of obstructions. 15. Substitute short showers for baths. Near the end, close the stopper and catch a little water in the bottom to add humidity to the air. 16. Repair leaky faucets promptly. 17. Replace standard light bulbs with comparable compact flourescent lamps. They are more costly but longer lasting. 18. Add attic insulation. You can buy big rolls and spread them in the attic. 19. Have your heating equipment checked by a qualified technician to judge efficiency. Heating equipment often accounts for about half of your winter energy costs. 20. Roll up a bath towel and put it at the bottom of any doors to the outside. Or you can buy or make a door draft dodger which in its most basic form is a cloth tube filled with sand. Feel cold air from your wall or baseboard light switches? Hardware stores sell kits that you can use to block cold air coming through those switches. Secret Catfish DOUGH BAITS – Success with a BIG “Twist” in the Tail!

By Tim F. Richardson * A crucial lesson about fishing baits! * I heard about a lake in my locality where there was rumoured to be a giant catfish. I had been warned about going to fish there; Beware; fishing rods have been snapped with ease by the monster that lurks there! Well, I never expected to hook such a fish, and although I had hooked and caught some large catfish of about 30 pounds, it did not bother me in the slightest that I might hook a monster. The chances were so slim. I had fished at night at the lake and landed twelve sturgeon up to about 12 pounds. They were not the 30 pound carp I was aiming for, but great sport all the same, as they tail walked on the water during fights. This was a new trick for me. I got to thinking I needed a special bait to hook the carp. Perhaps one they had never seen before. I had begun fishing at the lake using my old favourite earthworms, and had already sampled the delights of the lakes tiny perch and slimy eels. A bonus 15 pound carp was more like the size I desired, but still small when compared to my personal goals here. Apparently the carp in the lake went over 40 pounds, and so my thoughts were fixed on these! I decided to go back to basics and make a homemade paste, dough bait. I was into making dough baits, as I had found them so far superior to using ordinary boilies when used and applied correctly. I heard a rumour that trout pellets were being fed into the lake in very large amounts, and so this might affect results on boilies too. I refused to use trout pellets themselves as bait, because I did not want to be lazy, and wanted to keep learning more about bait and their effects, by doing thing differently to other anglers. Anyway, I did not wish to copy everyone else, and use the same bait as them; I would simply end up merely catching average catches. And I wanted to specifically target big catches and the biggest fish! So I went off to the supermarket and purchased five pounds of prepared pork sausage meat. I added to this 3 small pots of garlic granules, 2 dozen hen eggs, 5 pounds of cheap semolina powder and 5 tins of sweetcorn to be liquidized. I obtained a bottle of body building liquid amino acids in cherry flavour, and a small bottle of alcohol based vitamin and mineral supplement, and some sea salt. All from the health food shop. Finally, I found 10 boxes of oats and I was ready to make some new bait. After an evening of experimenting with these ingredients and making a sticky mess in buckets, I finally made up a good few pounds of paste dough for free offerings or ground bait. The trickiest bit was finding the best ratios of ingredients to make effective hook baits. I wanted to make them tougher and scald them in boiling water to give them a protective skin without losing all their attraction. I had filled these hook baits, just like the ground bait, with lots of cherry flavours amino acids compound, liquidized sweet corn, sea salt, garlic granules and vitamin and mineral supplement. To cut a long story short, the first I night fished, produced a surprising three 30 pound catfish in a row. Wow! The next week, the night produced four 30 pound catfish. Great! The following night produced three 30 pound catfish a 20 pound catfish and two fish lost. Fantastic sport, but where were the carp that I was actually fishing for? I had to assume that the catfish were actually forcing the carp away from the bait in the swim. But I was pleased to be getting such good sport. I decided to give the bait one more night and returned with my girlfriend for company. Again at about 2 am my bite alarm shattered the peace and quiet, and I strained to slow down another hard pulling catfish. I had gotten extremely used to this pattern of strike, play, land and weigh at night. This fish looked just like previous ones and weighed 35 pounds. I was looking forward to catching maybe four more like it that night. But strangely, it was not to be. I was camping out under a fishing umbrella with sides attached to keep the wind off. My girlfriend slept like a log at the back of the tent on the comfortable bed chair. I was heroically perched precariously at the front, facing the cold night on the rocky old sun-lounger, and in the old sleeping bag with the broken zip. This set-up might bring back memories for a few of you! Just as I had given up hope of another fish at 7 am, an alarm screamed into life and I struggled to reach the bouncing rod. Unfortunately, I never got there; the curse of the sleeping bag with the broken zip combined with a bed chair that kindly flipped me over backwards and trapped me, put paid to that! I angrily and resignedly recast the rod, without much hope of another fish as daylight began to break, and packing up time beckoned. I heard an alarm suddenly beep almost immediately, but fish hitting the line were very common at this time and I took no notice. 5 minutes later and it happened again and I made a mental note. 2 minutes later I felt all was not normal. So I gave the rod a really big strike, like you do, not expecting anything to happen. Only this time, nothing really did happen. The rod hooped right over and did not move. Damn, I must have hooked a snag on the lake bed, just as I was about to pack up too. I thought. Just then I felt the bottom move, very slowly, by inches it seemed at a time. It was about then my heart hit my mouth, as I tried to contain the shock of the situation. I automatically walked backwards, and started to heave the monster off the bottom. It came up an inch at a time, the rod was well past its test curve, and creaking at the butt end. The line sang strained high notes of the kind I had never heard before! The unseen leviathan took back control and took off slowly towards the centre of the lake, with me straining every muscle to slow it down, as the tightly set clutch whined way too fast for my liking. There was a massive boil at the surface as the great fish changed direction. It charged at the opposite bank. The fisherman opposite fell off his chair as the giant struck the bank right in front of him. I was too focussed to laugh at the time! Taking deep gulps of breathe, I determined not to give the stunned fish an inch of line, now I had experienced the power it possessed. Cranking it back slowly a foot at a time, it took an eternity to heave back in front of me, just beyond some weed beds. As it came along in front of me my girlfriend held out my meagre 42 inch carp landing net. As we watched the fish pass between two weed beds in front of us, we counted off the length in feet. After counting about six and a half feet, it became like a scene out of Jaws as we both said in very dead pan voices: Were going to need a bigger net! When help arrived, we hauled the giant catfish up onto the bank, onto waiting mats and an especially long weigh sling. As the weigh scales pointer hovered around the magical 100 pound mark I was in a daze. I was trying to remember what I put into the bait that created this experience so I could make it happen again! I landed over thirty 30 pound catfish in the following six weeks, but I never again hooked the monster on the same bait. I guess he just learnt his lesson! Does Your LG Shine Reflect Your Personality?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carlo_Janee]Carlo Janee The mobile phone market is practically pitted deep beneath a heap of mobile phones. The influx of mobile phones is amazingly enormous, and a feverish rise in technology is the prime factor responsible for this growth. However, the number of mobile phones that manage to impress and woo the users are not many. Innovative approach on the part of the manufacturers is the primary element that distinguishes successful mobile phones from the dampeners. South Korean manufacturer LG has evidently worked on its innovation process to bring out the LG KE970 or the LG Shine, as it is popularly known. Like a poetry in motion, the LG Shine defines beauty at its mesmerising best. Entwined in a stainless steel casing, the tactile sliding phone has a 2.2 Inch colour screen that emits an unusual mirror effect to attract the fashion conscious users. The phone gracefully slides open to reveal an embedded keypad that promotes user friendliness to the core. The phone’s 2.0 megapixel camera with flash, autofocus and 2 x digital zoom is worth checking as some pretty clever features enhance its performance to appease the tech-crazy advocates. The Tri Band takes care of the connectivity requirements of the users through channels like USB, Bluetooth and GPRS, its WAP and XHTML browsers provide seamless connection to the Internet for the mobile professionals. An integrated memory of 1 GB offers ample space for users to happily store away their favourite songs, videos and pictures. The LG Shine is definitely a worthy buy, what with its stunning looks and an innovative assimilation of some trendy abilities boosting its image in the phone market. However, on a more practical note, the manufacturer could have done with some methods to assure the physical security of this delicate communication device. The vulnerability of the phone’s screen is too evident for people to have a second thought, although it has gone all the way to impress the trend savvy users in the market. Strike the Perfect Balance with Chi Dating Advice for Men

By Joshua Goh It is an accepted fact that many social principles and philosophies of the East have benefited the world and continue to do so. Chi, the Chinese term for Life Energy is an essential part of our body that flows in pre-determined paths and controls many of our thoughts and actions. You dont have to be a Chi Gong practitioner or a Chi Guru to realize the implication of this Life energy and the importance of managing or channelizing it for our own good. I am sure you have heard or read about the use of Chi and the enormous power it yields in healing, over and above various other traditional uses. Even if you do not have any faith in these realities, you have surely experienced the feeling of complete exasperation, after sex. The ejaculation after the act completely drains you out, leaving you tired, sleepy and perhaps hungry too. The entire process of ejaculation is a result of numerous biological and chemical changes that take place in your body, resulting in a positive loss of will power and energy. Even after having sex in the morning, have you noticed the change in the energy level in your body? Perhaps you werent as sleepy, but nevertheless, the whole act drained you of vital life force that flows through your body. This loss of energy is also the loss of chi energy. Think of the reverse situation. When you have not had sex for more than a week arent you more energetic, active and raring to go? You have now saved some energy, enabling you to move ahead with vigour and zest. Masturbation. Practiced since childhood by many of us. Yet this simple and natural urge to masturbate saps a lot of vital energy off our body. When you meet and date women, you need a lot of positive mental and physical energy and motivational force to go out and do it well. But if you spend all the chi, or life energy in mere self-gratification, you are just running short of that big motivational force which you need badly. Hence, the most important thing for you to do, is to practice self-discipline rigorously. Preserve and protect that Chi or life energy, so that you draw from it as and when necessary. Of course, dont save too much of it by self-deprivation. A path of renunciation and celibacy is not is suggested here. Sexual frustration beyond a certain limit can come in the way of you becoming a dynamic and positive person. Try and find an optimal balance between the two extremes.
